In men, testosterone is produced in the testicles. Testosterone plays a vital role in a man's physical appearance and sex drive. Low testosterone (low-T) can be brought on by certain medical conditions, medications, or injuries. As men age, testosterone levels naturally decrease. Low testosterone however can have an impact on mood, sexual performance and desire, and changes in muscle and fat. These symptoms, such as low sex drive, difficulty having an erection, insomnia, fatigue, bone loss, and depression can have a negative impact on a man’s life and relationships. 

Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) can help! The laboratory reference ranges for testosterone are based on men ages 18-40. It can be assumed that these are healthy participants, but there is much more to consider when discussing hormones. Additionally, many men will have clear symptoms of low-T but if their blood test shows them within the reference range, even on the lowest end, their primary care provider may not prescribe TRT and their insurance likely will not cover it.
